Situation
Geographic Expeditions is one of the largest overseas tour operators in the United States. Given strong competition and a weakening economy, they wanted to streamline their inefficient operations. Further, management wanted to better track and forecast their sales, which had proven to be very difficult because most operational data was tracked in hundreds of Excel spreadsheets. Lastly, they wanted to resell the resultant application to other tour operators.
Solution
Langtech worked with Geographic Expeditions to develop a Web-based intranet that would allow them to become much more efficient at the operations, sales and management levels.
Architecture: Geographic Expeditions required an architecture that would be reliable, scalable, and powerful and could eventually support an ASP-based service. We used the leading-edge .NET Microsoft architecture at the application level and SQL Server 2000 at the database level.
Integration: Langtech integrated the application with Microsoft Exchange so that they could file email correspondence with associated contact records. Langtech also integrated the application with their back-end accounting package so that all accounting transactions, such as invoices, refunds, vendor payments and credits, would be fed automatically into the accounting package, avoiding tedious double entry.
Current Status
The application was launched in the Summer of 2004. The project was on time and on budget and Langtech is now in the process of packaging the application for large scale ASP-style deployment. |
